The Realisation - £1270

18" wide x 24"high. Oils on 22mm deep wooden cradled panel.

In creating this piece, I set out to capture a single, transformative moment when understanding breaks through emotion.

In this powerful close-up, a tear traces the face of a woman witnessing the crucifixion. Her expression holds both anguish and awakening, as the full weight of the moment unfolds within her. What she sees is not only suffering but meaning.

Layered into the painting are words from the Book of Book of Isaiah. A prophetic passage that speaks of sacrifice, suffering, and redemption. As she watches, she begins to understand: “Surely he hath borne our griefs…” The scripture is no longer distant or abstract. It becomes real, immediate, and undeniable.

The vivid, expressive use of fiery reds, luminous golds, and deep shadows, reflect the intensity of that moment. Light gathers in the eye, symbolising both vision and revelation, while the tear becomes a quiet expression of both sorrow and truth.
